We have been verifying the authenticity of medicines for 7 years
Ten years ago, at the begining of 2016, European Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/161 came into force. Three years later, on February 9, 2019, the Regulation became effective and the European Medicines Verification System (EMVS), including the Czech Medicines Verification System (CZMVS), was launched and began to be used.
The Czech Medicines Verification Organisation(CZMVO has been one of the most active organizations in the EU since the project was launched. Despite initial mistrust and concerns that the verification of medicines would lead to problems in dispensing them to patients, most pharmacies and pharmacy chains joined the system during the first months of operation of the Czech Medicines Verification System, much earlier than in most EU countries.
100% of end users are now connected to the NSOL. As of January 5, 2026, there were 1,561 active end users (pharmacies and distributors) registered in the NSOL. Of these, 1,219 were pharmacy companies (with 2,979 establishments) and 342 were distributors (with 489 establishments). As of the same date, 392 marketing authorization holders (MAHs) had concluded a contract with CZMVO.
The CZMVS system is long-term available, stable, and functional.
Approximately 39-40 million transactions take place in CZMVO every month. However, the total number of alerts in the entire Czech Republic is only 8-9 thousand per month. The proportion of alerts to transactions in CZMVS thus remains at around 0.005-0.006%, which is well below the initial target (0.05%). Compared to other countries, the proportion of alerts to the number of transactions in the Czech Republic is consistently one of the lowest.
During the ten years of the anti-counterfeiting directive's validity and seven years of CZMVS operation, the Czech Medicines Verification Organisation has ensured the smooth dispensing of verified medicinal products thanks to continuous and systematic communication with pharmacists, distributors, manufacturers, and application software providers. Close cooperation with the national supervisory authority (SÚKL) and the development and operation of its own Alert Management System (CZAMS) are also important.
